Hiking Trailhead Parking Lot Break-Ins


Mission:
Document recent break-ins at hiking trailhead parking lots in order to help find patterns and/or help law enforcement. This is not a scientific study, nor is it currently using law enforcement records - only voluntary submissions from victims.

Locations:
Currently only for New Hampshire hiking trailhead parking lots. If this project is successful, other states may be considered.

Results (07-31-07):
With limited submissions so far, here are a few trends:
- Sunday was the most common day in which a break in may have happened (43%).
- There is a 60/40 split between day trip break-ins and overnighter break-ins.
- 40% of the break-ins involved theft of money or credit cards.
- 60% of the break-ins involved breaking of a window.
- The most common hours for potential break-ins were 8 AM - 12 Noon
- So far, none of the break-in victims had an anti-theft device.
