Route: Goose Eye Trail, (Goose Eye Mountain), Goose Eye Trail, Mahoosuc Trail, (Mt. Carlo), Mahoosuc Trail, Goose Eye Trail, (Goose Eye Mountain), Goose Eye Trail

With another nice weather forecast, I headed up to the Mahoosucs.

Starting on the Goose Eye Trail, I parked slightly up the logging road than normal (due to a full parking lot) and worked my way through the flats and over the rock hoppable water crossings.

Eventually reaching the steeps beyond the logging road portion, the brisk morning air made travels a bit easier. Upon scrambling up to the ledgy summit, I was a bit surprised to see how hazy things were. Nonetheless, there were good views in all directions under blue skies.

The descent off Goose Eye required going down a ladder and some ledge scrambles, all of which were fortunately dry. The walk through the alpine areas was quite nice.

Reaching the summit of Carlo, I followed the herdpath to the southwestern ledges, where I hung out for an extended amount of time.

Rather than continue down the nasty Carlo Col trail, I opted to head back up to Goose Eye and then back out the Goose Eye Trail. Though involving a lot more climbing and some scrambly descents, it was nonetheless more enjoyable than the slippery rocks, clearcuts, and mud that is the Carlo Col Trail.
