It was on this mountain that Herman Melville, accompanied by Nathaniel Hawthorne, came up with ideas for the book Moby Dick. The most popular portion of Monument Mountain is Squaw Peak - accessible by multiple hiking trails. The Devil's Pulpit, a column of rock just south of Squaw Peak, is a compelling feature.
