Amherst, MA and Granby, MA Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below. ![]() Metacomet-Monadnock Trail near sunset Having broken the trail at Mt. Lincoln, the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail to Mt. Norwottock was vastly different - well packed, slipperly in some places, slushy in others. Certain parts in the shade had set up well enough to make conditions somewhat icy - and perfect for my first experience on Stabilicers. The views from the summit were surprisingly strong - Mt. Greylock, Haystack, Mt. Snow, and Mt. Toby were all visible. After reaching the summit, I decided to look around for the horse caves. I'm not quite sure I found them - apparently they aren't actually caves, but rather a series of cliffs that lean out a bit. Not having much free time remaining, I wasn't able to stick around for the sunset (though, with the direction of the views, it likely wouldn't have been that great on the summit of Norwottock).
