"Summit" photos may in fact not be at the actual summit - but instead at the best nearby vista. Pocumtuck Ridge Trail heading toward Pocumtuck Rock Prior to hiking Mt. Toby, I decided to do a quick hike to the top of Pocumtuck Rock in Deerfield. Originally planning to hike the road, I ended up taking the Pocumtuck Ridge trail, which goes over to the summit of the old Deerfield Academy ski area prior to cutting back to the Pocumtuck Rock. With the exception of a few short pitches around the old Deerfield ski area, the hike is nearly flat. Though the trail is marked, I found the navigation somewhat challenging, as there area areas missing blazes (trees down) as well as four different types of markings. At one point, I wandered down to the base area of the old Deerfield Academy ski area, completely missing the blaze on the side of the dirt road the path had merged with. All in all, however, you can't really get lost, as you can generally either head uphill or downhill and hit the ridge or a road.
