Route: High Watch Trail
My intent for today's hike was to do hike an abandoned ski area, however the trail I intended to take had a big No Trespassing sign on it. Thus, my fallback, Green Mountain.
I took my time at the trailhead and had a leisurely snack, as I knew I wanted to stick around for the sunset - but that it was still over an hour away.
I was surprised to still see some foliage on the High Watch Trail - most of the hikes I've done recently have been leafless.
I was able to make it to the summit in time to check out the fire tower operation - there were great views this afternoon, ranging from what I think was Portland to Mt. Washington to Mt. Kearsarge.
After visiting with some friendly folks, the waiting game was on. Boy did it get windy on the top deck of the firetower!
The sunset was great - many different colours on display, just south of Mt. Shaw. I couldn't get myself to leave for quite awhile, as every time I got ready to descend the stairs, the tint of the clouds changed to an even nicer colour. As a result, I ended up descending in the dark wearing gloves!
