Looking up the Elwell Trail on the way to Little Sugarloaf
Route: Elwell Trail, Orange Trail, Elwell Trail, (Little Sugarloaf), Elwell Trail, (Sugarloaf), White Trail, Green Trail, Orange Trail, Elwell Trail
For the second hike of the afternoon, I headed up to the Newfound Lake area. The Elwell Trail over the the Sugarloaves was mostly dry and snow free. Though cloudy overhead, the views from the peaks were still decent - nice to see unfrozen lake.
For the descent, I decided to take the White Trail off Sugarloaf to Goose Pond. This ended up being pretty much a logging road walk - nothing particularly special this time of year. In hindsight, I probably would have preferred to take the Orange Trail down to the pond from the Sugarloaf col.
Goose Pond was a nice place - geese playing and a beaver swimming around.

Goose Pond
Directions to trailhead: From Bristol, take US 3A North, then take a left onto West Shore Road. Continue right on West Shore Road when Caridgan Mountain Road branches off straight. Shortly after passing the Alexandria town line, the Elwell Trail parking lot entrance road will be on the left. The Elwell Trail trailhead is at the corner of this parking lot.
