About

Mt. Rowe, Gunstock Mountain
Gilford, NH

Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below.

Route: Various trails, White Trail, (Mt. Rowe), White Trail, (Gunstock Mountain), ski trails, White Trail, herd path, Yellow Trail, Blue Trail, Green Trail

Trails were mostly dry and in good shape. Sort of a maze of poorly marked trails behind the elementary school. Attempted to follow the purple trail, however I lost it when it split (blaze seemed to imply it was going straight, however I think it went right). Kept going uphill and eventually joined the more familiar to me paths above the Yellow Trail up to the ridge.

After a side trip to Mt. Rowe, I followed the White Trail (Belknap Range Trail) to Gunstock. A new rolo on the upper Gunstock portion means that you no longer have to hop onto the ski trails. It starts off gradually, but gets progressively rugged as it works its way to the summit (coinciding with the now Orange blazed Gunstock Mountain Trail) through some nice varied stands of trees.

In the interest of time, I descended via the former ski area route of the trail, then took the White Trail back to the path to the Yellow Trail.

Brisk temperatures, crisp views, some foliage colors starting to emerge.
