The Starr King Trail
Since the higher summits forecast from the MWO showed stuff being in the clouds, I figured I'd head north and perhaps find a loophole.
Arriving in Jefferson, I was surprised to see very little snow - in the northern lakes region, there was a good half of a foot on the ground.
As I ascended the Starr King Trail, the snow gradually increased, from a trace at the base to a foot near the summit of Mt. Starr King.
Barebooting up to that point, I decided to put on my snowshoes for the first time since the spring, and make my way over to Waumbek. Fortunately, the trail was fairly well packed, so it was a mild snowshoe.
Continuing a bit past the summit cairn, I found what looked to be a halfway decent viewpoint - on a nice day. Like Mt. Starr King, Mt. Waumbek was in the clouds at this point - only a few hundred vertical feet lower, and it was turning into a nice day!
On the way down from Mt. Starr King, things continued to clear, and I was struck by how nice part of the trail was - an open hardwood glade with some halfway decent obstructed views.
On the way home, I tried to find the Boy Mountain trailhead, but without the instructions from the White Mountain Guide, the map wasn't quite enough to find the obscure driveway.
