Jefferson, NH, Kilkenny, NH Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below. ![]() Looking up the Starr King Trail After a longer than planned morning hike on Mt. Moriah, I dragged myself over to do Starr King and Waumbek. While I would have been just as content to go home and take a nap, I wanted to take advantage of the likely last day of decent trail conditions in January (due to the incoming rain storm). After doing the road walk from the winter parking lot, I headed up the Starr King Trail. While I was dragging, the conditions were ideal. Had I been more energetic, I could have made great time. Reaching the summit, I had perhaps my best ever views from the increasingly grown in Starr King summit. While clouds were covering the area, the Presidentials were still in the clear. Hustling over to Mt. Waumbek, I passed over the summit and headed to the near summit vista, from where I could see the Presidentials had quickly been claimed by fog. Backtracking, I worked my way back up Starr King and then down to the road, finishing the hike just before dark.
