Looking up the The Starr King Trail on the way to Mt. Starr King Route: Starr King Trail Trail was snow free until near the spring, where occasional ice monorail started, including an extended stretch just prior to the Starr King summit. Ice monorail resumes just off Starr King to Waumbek. Little to no snow in the woods. Microspikes were just right. Rain held off, and even had views of the Northern Presis from Waumbek.
