Moultonborough, NH Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below. ![]() Looking up the Red Hill Trail The weather forecast for the weekend looked terrible - rain, clouds, etc. Late Saturday morning, I checked the satellite imagery and saw a large clearing moving in from Vermont. Sure enough, around lunchtime the clouds moved out and revealed a nice sunny day. Not knowing how long this would last, I decided to do something local. Wanting to bareboot, I put my snowshoes on my pack and headed up the trail. Significant portions of the lower part of the trail had thawed out, but by and large it was still mostly spring snow. As long as I stayed on the packed snow monorail in the middle of the trail, there was no postholing. There were minimal winds up on the fire tower, making for pleasant viewing. While Winnipesaukee and points to the west were cloudy, the views of the Sandwich Range were strong. The good weather continued to hold, allowing me to return to the trailhead under mostly sunny skies.
