Route: Old Bridle Path, Falling Waters Trail, (Little Haystack Mountain), Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Lincoln), Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Truman), Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Lafayette), Greenleaf Trail, Old Bridle Path

After an afternoon/evening hike up Mt. Whiteface and Mt. Passaconaway, I was having a hard to getting going. Originally intending to be on trail by 7 AM, a lack of energy delayed the start time by about an hour.

The Falling Waters Trail was generally nicely packed. The numerous water crossings were fairly well ice bridged, making for smooth sailing. Nearing treeline, a glance back revealed a spectacular sight - undercast!

As we worked our way across the ridge, the scenery was spectacular - a near-4,000 foot undercast throughout Vermont, Northern New Hampshire, and Southern New Hampshire. In addition, the ambient temperature was rather mild, and the winds generally tame (other than on Mt. Truman and Mt. Lafayette).

Despite the awesome weather and generally popular loop, we saw very few people on the trail. What a way to spend Christmas Eve day!
