Thus, what better way to spend a sunny June morning than getting attacked by black flies and spruce trees? Arriving at Loon, we stayed to the left-most ski trails, eventually making it to the top of the newer high speed quad on the north peak. While the flowers on the ski trails were nice, the hot sunlight and black flies were less than optimal. We then took a short side trip to the true summit of the north peak - down the Sunset trail slightly, then dipping into the woods and following a herd path to the summit. The views from the summit rocks/ledges were quite good, looking over the ski trails at the Bonds and Presidentials amongst other peaks. Back at the top of the ski lift, we had lunch in the shade, prior to walking a few hundred feet down the Upper Walking Boss ski trail, dipping into the woods, and then bushwhacking over to a backcountry ski trail. Following this for awhile, we eventually took a right and started a bushwhack. While we hit a few open areas, we were generally dealing with somewhat thick spruce and numerous blowdowns. Finally reaching the cannister on the viewless westernmost peak of the ridge, we took another break while reading the entries - apparently there hadn't been any visitors since winter! The descent too awhile, as we tried without success in finding a better return line. Back on the ski trails, we were ambushed with black flies, which were aggressive despite some wind and rain. A decent day of hiking, but I doubt there will be much desire on anyone's behalf to return to Scar Ridge anytime soon.
