Looking up the Airline
Route: Air Line, Air Line Cutoff, Valley Way, Osgood Trail, (Mt. Madison), Osgood Trail, Valley Way, Lower Bruin, Brookside Trail, Kelton Trail, Inlook Trail, Valley Way, Fallsway, Brookbank
With a small but adequate window, I headed up to the Northern Presidentials. Not liking Valley Way, I beelined up Air Line and Cutoff, past the Madison (shingling in progress) in a new bypass path. Climbing Madison, the rocks were covered in rime.
While the views to the north were and undercast (above those mountains, so essentially just cloud visible), the views in other directions were strong.
For the descent, I started on the Valley Way trail, turning off it as soon as possible onto Lower Bruin. From there, I connected to Brookside and then to the Kelton Trail. After climbing uphill a bit, I turned onto the Inlook Trail, which provided numerous nice ledge views.
Once back on the Valley Way, I again turned off it onto Fallsway, then crossed over to Brookbank. While not as fast a descent as Valley Way, it was a nice walk by the cascades.
