Looking up the Cross Rivendell Trail on the way to Bald Top Route: Cross Rivendell Trail After hiking in the Breadloaf area, I decided to check out another new-to-me peak in Vermont. This section of the Cross Rivendell Trail started off as an old farm road with excellent footing. Awhile later, it turned off into the woods and became more of a trail proper, still with great footing. There weren't any particularly steep areas, thanks to switchbacks, however there was still enough to get the heart beating in the hot and humid weather. Nearing the grassy summit, the trail rejoined a grassy road. The summit area featured hazy views in multiple directions - I suspect it would be a really nice place to visit on a crisp, late autumn day. While I probably found the highpoint on the north knob of the summit, I didn't bother to bushwhack to the actual highpoint on the southern knob (perhaps about 14 feet taller). Take a right onto Route 244. Upon reaching the shore of Lake Fairlee, take a right onto Blood Brook Road. The Cross Rivendell Trail crossings this road just past a horse farm. The gated trail on the right leads to Bald Top. There is limited roadside room for parking. Back to Bald Top Profile
