Looking up the snowmobile trail on the way to Picket Mountain
Route: Picket Mountain Road, snowmobile trail, (Picket Mountain), snowmobile trail, Picket Mountain Road
After hiking Bond Mountain, I headed a few miles east for nearby Picket Mountain.
I made a false start up a blazed trail, quickly realizing I was going to a nearby unnamed hill. Once back where I started, I walked along Picket Mountain Road, eventually reaching a fork in the road (with a stonewall in the middle of the fork), where I turned left. I followed this well established (and fairly nice looking) snowmobile trail up to the false summit, where excellent views were had to the north (including the Presidentials) and west.
Continuing into a very minor col, I climbed up to the ledgy summit area, where there were views in nearly every direction. With black flies lightly swarming and rain approaching, I didn't linger for too long.
