Route: Bike path, bushwhack, Liberty Spring Trail, Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Liberty), Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Flume) Franconia Ridge Trail, (Mt. Liberty), Franconia Ridge Trail, Liberty Spring Trail, bushwhack, bike path

Despite a cold, windy start, it looked to be a nice day to be on the Franconia Ridge. Walking down the bike path, we followed an old trail up to the Liberty Spring Trail - very little snow to be found until reaching the water crossings. Shortly after the upper crossing, I donned my snowshoes.

Reaching the alpine zone, the winds weren't too harsh - the skies were mostly clear and the ambient temperatures nice.

The next stop was Mt. Flume. The Franconia Ridge Trail was in good shape between the peaks. By the time we reached Mt. Flume, the winds had pretty much ceased, resulting in a nice extended spring stay.

Directions to trailhead: Take Interstate 93 north from Lincoln to the Basin. Walk south down the bike path - just prior to reaching a grassy, old road on the right (where the bike path gets close to the highway), start the bushwhack on the left. After crossing a brook, an old logging road can be found a bit to the left, eventually meeting up with the hairpin turn in the Liberty Spring Trail
