Crystal Mountain (Southwest Peak)
Dixville, NH, Dix's Grant, NH
Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below.
Unpleasant blowing snow
Route: Logging roads, bushwhacks
Bitter cold day with nonstop blowing snow. Started at the junction on Roaring Brook Road, took the right branch beyond the cabin, then hopped into the logging cut beyond it, followed the skid road up that, then bushwhacked up to the ridge, hitting the false peak (pretty good going up till that point), the followed the ridge to the recognized summit (ie 2,970') (scrubby in places). Dropped directly down from the summit (scrubby in places, but not terrible), then cut back to the road near that logging cut.
Temperature was about 14 degrees at the start, not including the howling wind. Quite a few trees rocking on their rootballs. Maybe 2-4" of snow in the woods. Barebooted the whole hike.

Start of a brief logging road walk
A lack of views from Southwest Crystal Mountain
Directions to trailhead: From Errol, take route 26 northwest, then take a right onto Corser Brook Road (Greenoogh Pond Road). Eventually cross Swift Diamond River, then take a left onto Greenough Pond Road. Take a right onto Roaring Brook Road. Soon thereafter, there may be room to park on the side of the road, near where a cabin and logging road are on the right.
