Heading up the High Watch Trail to the Green Mountain summit Route: High Watch Trail I wanted to do something nearby and not overly challenging, so Green Mountain seemed like a good fit. While I had considered taking the Libby Trail, I didn't feel like descending in the dark. Thus, the express High Watch Trail. There were some nice colors at the trailhead and down low. The trail then reaches stands of soft wood, so the foliage display disappeared for a bit. The views from the top deck of the locked and mostly unmanned firetower tower were good, though I think the northern and western vistas aren't as strong due to tree growth in the last year or so. Without a fire tower (and subsequent clearing), this peak would be viewless. Nonetheless, there are still nice views to be had, especially to the south and west.
