Looking down the High Watch Trail near the Green Mountain summit Route: High Watch Trail With occasional rain cells moving through the area, I opted to do something on the shorter side. Starting at the deer fly riddled trailhead, I jogged about halfway up the High Watch Trail before succombing to the steepness, heat, humidity, and general lack of conditioning. From there, I hiked up to the summit and climbed up the fire tower stairs (the cab has not been regularly staffed in a few years, but one can climb to the top flight of stairs), where I had decent views in most directions (the trees keep growing, taking a little bit more of the Sandwich Range view each year). With rocks slippery due to the humidity, I took my time on the descent. Despite the dark clouds to the north, I was able to avoid the rain.
