Travelling from Boston to Lebanon on the late afternoon of October 25, 1968, Northeast Airlines Flight 946 crashed into the the south peak of Moose Mountain, killing 32. The 10 survivors were positioned in the back of the plane at the time of the crash. The resulting fire from the Fairchild-Hiller FH227C crash burned a significant portion of the mountain.
